Yarn weight decides how thick your knitting is. DK (double knit) is the everyday UK all-rounder, aran is thicker, and chunky knits up fastest. Buy all you need from the same dye lot so the colour matches. For fabric, check the width (often 112cm or 150cm) when working out how many metres a pattern needs, and pre-wash natural fibres before cutting.
Prices and stock change, so check with each shop.
