Do Britons actually need an eSIM? A short roaming explainer

Since Brexit, UK networks set their own roaming rules. Vodafone's own price page shows roaming in its Europe zone (Zone B) rising to £2.75 a day from 14 April 2026 (Vodafone). eSIMpass's comparison, checked against network price guides on 8 October 2026, reports EE at £2.72 a day and Three at up to £2.75 a day on newer plans, while O2, Tesco Mobile, giffgaff, SMARTY, iD Mobile, Lebara and Lyca include Europe roaming within limits (eSIMpass).

The duck's rule of thumb: check when your plan started and what your network includes before you buy anything. A data-only travel eSIM sits alongside your UK SIM, so your number still gets calls, texts and bank codes. It tends to make most sense outside Europe, or if you pay a daily roaming charge. Prices change often, so we don't list them here. Always check the provider's own site.
